A climate of apprehension has settled over Cherukunnu following a brazen bomb attack on the residence of K. Biju, the BJP Kalyasseri Constituency General Secretary, in the early hours of Thursday.
Police reports indicate that three crude bombs were detonated around 2:30 a.m., inflicting significant damage to the property. The explosive impact shattered front window panes and caused considerable destruction to furniture, electronic equipment, doors, and interior walls.
The Kannapuram police promptly arrived at the scene, initiating an immediate investigation. Initial findings suggest that a group of attackers, possibly arriving on a motorbike, were responsible for the incident. Remnants of the explosives were successfully recovered from the veranda, offering crucial evidence.
Further escalating the investigation, a specialized bomb squad from Kannur conducted a thorough inspection of the site. Forensic experts are anticipated to carry out more detailed examinations to piece together the events. Authorities have also started reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify those behind the attack.
In response to the incident, the BJP has strongly condemned the assault and declared plans for a protest march. The demonstration is scheduled to commence at 9:30 a.m. from Kannapuram railway station, culminating at Cherukunnu Thara, as the party expresses its outrage and demands action.
