A significant cabinet reshuffle is underway in Meghalaya, as eight ministers, including veteran politicians like AL Hek, Paul Lyngdoh, and Ampareen Lyngdoh, have officially resigned from their positions. This move precedes a planned induction of new ministers, set to occur later this Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who leads the NPP-backed Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, confirmed the resignations after meeting with Governor C.H. Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan in Shillong. The Chief Minister formally submitted the letters of resignation from the outgoing ministers.
Sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet members is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Tuesday at Raj Bhavan.
Among those who stepped down are Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon, Rakkam A Sangma, and Abu Taher Mondal from the NPP; Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla representing the UDP; Shakliar Warjri of the HSPDP; and AL Hek from the BJP.
These resignations were a necessary step to facilitate the smooth transition and appointment of new faces within the state’s cabinet.
