On Tuesday, a dedicated group of BJP leaders in Tirupati launched a special initiative focused on restoring the cleanliness and dignity of public statues and memorials throughout the city.
This local effort, spearheaded by State spokesperson Jalli Madhusudhan, is a key component of a larger national cleanliness campaign. The drive, spanning from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, emphasizes community participation in upholding public hygiene.
Madhusudhan explained that the primary goal of this initiative is to give a ‘refreshingly new look’ to these important cultural markers. Over time, statues depicting mythological figures, revered historical personalities, and national leaders often accumulate dust and grime from urban traffic, diminishing their visual appeal and symbolic importance.
Beyond the busy traffic islands, the volunteers meticulously cleaned not only the statues themselves but also the surrounding areas. This included the ladders providing access to, and the protective enclosures around, the esteemed statues of Maharshi Valmiki and the renowned poetess ‘Kavayitri’ Molla.
