Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently confirmed a second conversation in as many days with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Their discussions centered on significantly enhancing Kyiv’s air defense systems, bolstering the nation’s overall resilience, and developing its long-range military capabilities. Zelenskyy highlighted that the talks also delved into intricate details concerning Ukraine’s energy sector.
According to President Zelenskyy, “President Trump is exceptionally well-informed about everything that is happening.” He expressed optimism about continuing their dialogue, with both teams reportedly engaged in preparatory work for future interactions.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin voiced profound apprehension regarding the potential supply of U.S. Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. On Sunday, Russia warned that the conflict had reached a critical juncture, with escalating actions from all parties involved. This concern echoes earlier statements where Russian President Vladimir Putin, while expressing praise for Trump, explicitly cautioned that providing long-range U.S. missiles to Ukraine would severely damage bilateral ties.
Responding to the missile debate, Mr. Trump stated on Monday that he would require a clear understanding of Ukraine’s strategic intentions for the Tomahawk missiles before committing to their provision. His primary concern, he emphasized, was to prevent any further escalation of the ongoing war.
