Xiaomi recently unveiled its latest QLED X Pro 75 smart TV lineup in India. Hot on its heels, a company executive hinted at plans to introduce four new smartphones and a tablet to the Indian market. Separately, Xiaomi has also confirmed that it will soon unveil a new ‘computing device’ in the country. This mysterious gadget could be a sleek, lightweight laptop or a versatile tablet featuring a backlit keyboard. These exciting revelations come shortly after the company announced the global launch date for its Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 smartphones.
Is Xiaomi Preparing to Launch the Xiaomi Pad 8 in India?
In a recent social media post, the Chinese tech giant teased the arrival of a new ‘computing’ device, stating, ‘We’ve redefined the tablet category, but we’re not stopping there.’ While the exact name remains under wraps, the teaser image suggests a device with a thin profile and a flat frame, hinting at either a slim laptop or a tablet with an accompanying keyboard. The keyboard in the image appears illuminated, though it’s unclear if this is due to a dedicated backlight or simply light reflecting from the display.
Adding to the buzz, Sandeep Sarma, Xiaomi India’s Associate Director of Marketing and PR, also shared a series of emojis—a TV, followed by two phones, a tablet, and two more handsets—further teasing the next wave of devices for the country.
Considering that Xiaomi launched its 2026 QLED X Pro smart TV series on Thursday and has confirmed the global launch of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 for February 28, Sarma’s hints strongly suggest that the next major reveal in India could indeed be a tablet.
According to tech insider Abhishek Yadav, the computing device teased by Xiaomi is likely the much-anticipated Xiaomi Pad 8. Yadav also predicts that the Xiaomi Pad 8 will likely feature a powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. However, he suggests that the more premium Pad 8 Pro model might not make it to India due to rising component costs.
Xiaomi’s current flagship tablet in China, the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, debuted in September 2025. It is priced at CNY 2,999 (approximately Rs. 34,500) for its base variant, which includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This tablet is designed to be compatible with a backlit keyboard that also incorporates a trackpad. The Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro boasts an 11.2-inch 3.2K (3,200×2,136 pixels) LCD screen, delivering 345ppi and an impressive refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Powering this device is a robust Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
