Gamers looking to purchase an Xbox console this holiday season might want to move quickly, as Microsoft has just announced its second price increase for its consoles this year in the US.
Starting October 3rd, the most affordable option, the 512 GB Xbox Series S, will now cost $400. Meanwhile, the premium Xbox Series X with a disc drive and two terabytes of storage will be priced at $800. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the updated pricing for the Xbox lineup:
- Xbox Series S 512 GB: Now $400 (previously $380)
- Xbox Series S 1 TB: Now $450 (previously $430)
- Xbox Series X Digital: Now $600 (previously $550)
- Xbox Series X: Now $650 (previously $500)
- Xbox Series X 2 TB Galaxy Black Special Edition: Now $800 (previously $730)
This follows an initial price adjustment made earlier in May. Microsoft attributes these increases to ‘changes in the macroeconomic environment,’ clarifying that prices outside of the US will not be affected at this time.
This trend of rising console, game, and accessory prices has become increasingly noticeable over the past year. Many believe these adjustments are connected to tariffs imposed by the current US administration, though no major gaming companies have directly confirmed this as the sole reason.
Interestingly, Microsoft isn’t alone in this move. PlayStation also raised its console prices earlier this year, and Nintendo faced similar considerations, briefly delaying Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US. Upon its eventual release, many Switch 2 games and accessories were priced higher than expected, and even the original Nintendo Switch saw a price increase last month.
