The upcoming World of Warcraft: Legion Remix event promises an exciting return to one of WoW’s most beloved expansions, bringing with it a vast array of new and returning transmog options for players to collect. Yet, one particularly sought-after collection of Artifact weapon appearances from the original Legion era will not be making a comeback.
First launched in 2016, Legion remains a fan favorite among WoW expansions, largely due to its innovative Artifact-weapon system. Every player was given a legendary weapon from Warcraft lore, which they could upgrade and customize throughout the expansion. As transmog is a significant aspect of WoW’s endgame, these Artifact weapons came with various skins and color variations for players to chase and acquire.

Now, with Legion Remix on the horizon, players have a fresh opportunity to dive back into the expansion. Blizzard, through WoW community manager Kaivax, has confirmed that nearly all of Legion’s original Artifact weapon appearances – excluding those originally tied to PvP, as Legion Remix focuses solely on PvE content – will be available during the event. While many of these appearances are technically still earnable in the game’s current version, Legion Remix’s accelerated leveling and increased power levels will significantly speed up the process of acquiring them with new characters.
Kaivax stated, “In Legion Remix, you’ll have a great opportunity to obtain Artifact appearances that you haven’t already.”
However, there’s a significant exception: the exclusive Mage Tower Artifact appearances. The Mage Tower, a challenging mode introduced later in Legion, required players to complete unique class specialization challenges. Successfully conquering these challenges rewarded players with distinct Artifact weapon tints. When Legion concluded, the Mage Tower and its original rewards were removed. Although Blizzard eventually brought the Mage Tower back with new rewards in 2022, the original, highly coveted Artifact weapon tints remained unobtainable.
These specific Artifact appearances will similarly not be available in Legion Remix, meaning they will continue to be out of reach for players who didn’t complete the Mage Tower challenges during its initial run.
Many players have consistently hoped for the return of the original Mage Tower appearances, both when the feature was reintroduced in 2022 and now with Legion Remix. Nevertheless, Blizzard has maintained its stance, reiterating the reasoning behind their exclusion. “Many times throughout the history of World of Warcraft, there have been items, titles, and other kinds of rewards that belong in a category of the most prestigious and historic accomplishments–rewards that we believe should be preserved in a historical context for only those players who earned them at the time,” Kaivax explained in a previous forum post.
The WoW Legion Remix event is set to launch as part of WoW’s 11.2.5 patch on October 7. Similar to last year’s Mists of Pandaria Remix event, participation requires only a subscription or game time, not the purchase of WoW’s latest expansion.
Legion Remix will condense the expansion’s original content, releasing patches in bi-weekly segments. Players can look forward to earning a variety of new and returning cosmetic rewards, and will even be able to level up their Artifact weapons to unprecedented power levels. This newfound strength can then be tested in the event’s new, Diablo-inspired Heroic World Tier and Timeworn Mythic+ Keystone dungeons.
