The recently unveiled remake of the original Halo, marking the series’ debut on PlayStation, is making headlines for a surprising reason: it’s a campaign-exclusive title with no multiplayer support. This decision has naturally sparked curiosity among fans.
According to Executive Producer Damon Conn, the choice to omit multiplayer was deliberate. In a recent statement, Conn explained that by “focusing on the campaign experience,” the development team can dedicate all their efforts to “fully capturing the atmosphere, tone—the emotional impact of what made the first campaign so special and iconic.” This singular focus aims to deliver an unparalleled narrative journey.
Despite the absence of multiplayer, this new iteration, titled ‘Halo: Campaign Evolved,’ isn’t just a simple graphical overhaul. It introduces exciting new features not present in the 2001 original, such as three fresh prequel missions and the highly requested ability to sprint. Built on the powerful Unreal Engine 5, this remake is also anticipated to pave the way for a completely new, live-service Halo title in the future.

Conn further emphasized the team’s desire to “start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo.” This approach ensures that newcomers to the franchise can easily grasp the narrative from its very inception, laying a strong foundation for future Halo stories.
During a roundtable interview, Conn expanded on their vision, stating it was never their intention to “replace what is a masterpiece in the original.” Instead, they aim to “make something that stands kind of shoulder to shoulder with it, using new tools, new energy, to get a little bit of a fresh take on some things, but honoring the legacy.” He clarified that while it’s a campaign-focused experience, it’s not strictly single-player, as “Halo has been always about reconnecting, a strong sense of community, and then also telling those stories and sharing those experiences together.” Conn believes this release will truly bring people together.
This highly anticipated game is set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Specific pricing and an exact release date are yet to be revealed.
