WhatsApp is introducing an exciting new feature for its beta testers, allowing them to directly link their Facebook profiles to their WhatsApp accounts. This integration aims to create a more connected experience across Meta’s platforms, making it simpler for users to find and connect with each other. Available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, this update provides a quick shortcut to Facebook profiles. Following its earlier support for Instagram links, the ability to link Facebook is also anticipated to be rolled out to all users in the near future.
Connect Your Social Worlds: WhatsApp’s New Facebook Profile Link
Upon updating to a recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android (specifically 2.25.29.16), some testers will discover a new option to add their Facebook account link to their profile. This feature was initially noted by WABetaInfo, a well-known feature tracker, and is being progressively rolled out to select beta users. Although our own tests could not immediately confirm its presence even on the latest beta, this phased release suggests a gradual deployment to users.
Once activated, users can attach a link to their Facebook account directly on their WhatsApp profile page. This visible link makes it effortless for others to view and connect with them across platforms. Users have the flexibility to verify the link through Meta’s Accounts Centre, confirming ownership of both accounts. However, verification is not mandatory; an unverified link can still be displayed without impacting the user’s WhatsApp experience.
It’s important to note that adding a Facebook link on WhatsApp is entirely optional, giving users full control over whether and how they share this information. A verified Facebook link is distinguished by a small icon, providing visual confirmation that the same individual manages both accounts. In contrast, unverified links will simply show a generic icon and the full URL, without any official proof of ownership.
WhatsApp also provides comprehensive privacy settings for managing the visibility of these Facebook profile links. By navigating to Settings > Privacy > Links, users can decide to share their link with everyone, limit it to their contacts, choose specific individuals, or keep it completely private.
This feature was first observed during its development phase in an earlier beta version (2.25.26.12), where WhatsApp was internally testing Facebook profile linking capabilities. Its current public rollout to beta testers strongly suggests that the platform is nearing a broader release to all users in the coming weeks or months.
