Watch Dogs Movie Star Reveals It’s a Fresh Take, Not a Game Copy-Paste

Fans eager for the “Watch Dogs” movie might be surprised by its direction, as lead actor Tom Blyth recently revealed the film is deliberately charting its own course, steering clear of a direct adaptation of the popular video game series. This update comes more than a year after Ubisoft initially announced that filming had concluded.

Blyth, known for his role in “The Hunger Games” prequel, confirmed during an interview that he and other cast members recently returned for reshoots. He stated these additional filming sessions were intended to make the movie “even better.” While the specifics of the reshoots remain under wraps, such re-filming is a common practice in filmmaking and doesn’t necessarily point to production troubles.

The most significant revelation from Blyth was his assertion that the film is “not the game” and is “very different.” He carefully explained, “They’ve done an amazing job of making the game into a film. It feels very ‘film’. It doesn’t feel like they’ve tried to copy and paste the game onto the screen. It feels like its own thing, and it feels like the beginning of a world-building exercise.” This suggests the movie will capture the spirit and themes of “Watch Dogs” rather than mirroring its narrative or characters directly.

In addition to Blyth, the cast features Sophie Wilde from “Talk to Me” and Markella Kavenagh, who appeared in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” The film is directed by Mathieu Turi, whose previous work included “The Deep Dark.” Turi is also slated to direct a TV series based on “A Plague Tale.”

The “Watch Dogs” movie has been a long time coming, originally announced in 2013, a year before the first game’s release in 2014. It initially found a home at Sony Pictures before moving to New Regency. The video game franchise itself proved to be a hit, spawning sequels like “Watch Dogs 2” (2016) and “Watch Dogs Legion” (2020). These open-world games are set in recognizable cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and London, focusing on futuristic hacking and advanced gadgetry. However, details regarding the movie’s specific setting or plot remain undisclosed.
