Every Warframe player has that one character they’re desperate to unlock. While the starting frames are Excalibur, Mag, or Volt, there’s always a special Warframe that truly captures your imagination. For some, it might be the life-stealing Garuda, or perhaps the damage-over-time mastery of Saryn Prime. This latest update introduces a new contender for that ‘must-have’ spot, a charming fungal-inspired Warframe that has captivated players since its tease at Tennocon.
The highly anticipated fall update for Warframe, titled ‘The Vallis Undermind,’ transports players to a brand-new area: The Deepmines. These captivating, fungus-filled caverns lie hidden deep beneath the familiar, snow-covered plains of the Orb Vallis on Venus. To embark on this new adventure, you’ll need to connect with Nightcap, a new bounty vendor residing in Fortuna, who will guide your descent into the dark unknowns.
Accessible to all Tenno who have completed ‘The New War’ questline, your journey will involve collecting Fergoline, a vital new resource. An enigmatic creature known only as ‘The Prince’ hungers for this resource. By feeding this mushroom monster, you’ll unlock a series of visions, allowing you to delve deeper into the rich, hidden history of The Deepmines.
However, the true star of this update is undoubtedly Nokko, the 62nd Warframe to join the extensive roster. Described by the inhabitants of Fortuna as the adopted younger sibling of the water-based Yareli (complete with adorable partner emotes!), Nokko excels as a support-focused Warframe, specializing in healing both allies and himself.
Nokko’s abilities are as unique as his design:
- Stinkbrain: Allows Nokko to strategically scatter mushrooms across the battlefield, dealing potent Viral damage (a combination of Cold and Toxic).
- Brightbonnet: Boosts the energy and strength of his allies, turning the tide of battle.
- Reroot: My personal favorite, this ability transforms Nokko into his tiny, invulnerable Sprodling form. This allows him to heal rapidly and spread sleep-inducing spores, offering crucial crowd control and self-preservation.
- Sporespring: Unleashes a lively, bouncing mushroom that aggressively leaps between enemies, inflicting damage.
Adding a strategic layer, Nokko’s passive ability, Vital Decay, allows him to revert to Sprodling form and scramble towards a previously placed mushroom. If successful, he rejoins the fight; otherwise, he requires a revival. The arrival of another potent Support frame, especially one that utilizes the highly effective Viral damage, is incredibly exciting. You can acquire Nokko either by spending Platinum or by diligently completing Nightcap’s bounties to earn his blueprints.

Beyond Nokko, the update also delivers a long-awaited feature: The Teacher quest. Unveiled at a previous TennoCon event, this quest finally provides comprehensive guidance on how to effectively mod your Warframes and weapons. For players who, like many, often resort to the ‘auto-mod’ button and hope for the best, this is an absolutely monumental addition. The mission becomes available shortly after completing Vor’s Prize, Warframe’s foundational story quest, and rewards you with the new Thornbak rifle upon completion. This quest is a game-changer for new Tenno.
Furthermore, prepare for the much-anticipated rework of Oberon, Warframe’s beloved Paladin. This update grants him a significant power boost, making him a formidable force on the battlefield. This update truly brings a wealth of enhancements for players who gravitate towards support-oriented Warframes.
And there’s more! Digital Extremes also offered another tantalizing Protoframe tease, hinting at the mysterious ‘Devil’s Triad’ and the Diablo-inspired ‘devilframe’ Uriel, set to arrive later this year. Featuring the iconic voice of René Zagger (known as Emet-Selch from Final Fantasy 14) as the enigmatic Roathe, Uriel joins Harrow and Wisp, presumably completing this powerful Triad. Though, who would say no to even more Protoframes?
To sweeten the deal, a host of new cosmetics are also making their debut, including premium skins for Lavos and Wukong, along with fresh TennoGen and Nights of Naberus drops. The annual Quest to Conquer Cancer returns for its fourth year, offering more exclusive cosmetic unlocks for reaching various donation tiers.
Warframe’s ‘The Vallis Undermind’ update is scheduled to launch on Wednesday, October 15. To celebrate Oberon’s rework, players who log in between October 15 and Tuesday, October 21 will receive the base Oberon frame for free!
