The press conference in 2003 that shook the film industry and captivated fans for decades has resurfaced in discussions, with Vivek Oberoi, who was at the center of the controversy, reflecting on its aftermath. At the time, rumors linked Vivek with Aishwarya Rai, shortly after her relationship with Salman Khan had ended. Vivek famously held a press conference alleging threats from Salman over his association with Aishwarya. This event significantly impacted Vivek’s career trajectory, which was initially poised for great success.
In a recent conversation, Vivek shared his perspective on the decision to hold the press conference, explaining, “I have been a very sensitive and emotional person in life. I don’t want to live in the fear of heartbreak because I have lived that already. I have experienced it, it’s a very scary, lonely and insular life.” He elaborated on the profound heartbreak and isolation he experienced, adding, “You have to be open again, to love again, and feel again.”
Looking back at the controversy, which was one of the biggest of that decade, Vivek now sees it as a challenging but ultimately strengthening experience orchestrated by a higher power. He shared, “Ajeeb baat yeh hai ki sar par jab aafat aati hai, sar pe pange hote hai, tab woh bade lagte hai… Similarly, I feel when God sees your problems, he must be thinking, ‘bacche this is a small thing, I’ll make you stronger’.”
He further commented on how discussing the event now feels distant, stating, “Woh perspective baadmein dikhta hai…Now I find it immature. Having or giving a reaction feels funny now.” He concluded by emphasizing his personal growth, saying, “Ek woh jo darr tha, ya kadvahat thi, bitterness thi, scars the, it becomes a difficult window at that time. Whatever I went through, I have forgotten about it.”
Vivek Oberoi was last seen in the film Kesari Veer earlier this year and is set to appear in Masti 4.
