In the wake of a devastating stampede that occurred during actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has taken legal action. TVK has approached the Madras High Court, requesting an independent inquiry into the incident that tragically resulted in 39 deaths and left 95 people injured. According to reports from LiveLaw, the High Court has permitted an urgent mention to take suo motu cognizance of the stampede.
TVK has alleged that conspiracies were involved in the stampede and is advocating for a thorough investigation by an independent agency. This move comes shortly after Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin announced that a commission, headed by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan, would visit Karur to investigate the incident.
Previously, the party had sought court intervention to secure permission for their rallies. At that time, the court had expressed concerns about accountability in the event of any untoward incidents and had advised Vijay to ensure his gatherings were conducted lawfully, even suggesting he ask vulnerable attendees like pregnant women and those with disabilities to refrain from participating.
