Since its introduction in June 2021, copper in Minecraft has always held immense promise, particularly with its unique ability to age and transform into various shades. Now, that potential is being fully realized with Mojang’s highly anticipated ‘The Copper Age’ update. This exciting expansion, set to launch on September 30, will unveil a wealth of new uses for the versatile metal, encouraging players to put all that copper in their storage chests to good use.
Players can at last craft and equip copper gear! The update introduces a complete range of copper armor, providing protection and durability that bridges the gap between basic leather and robust iron. This includes not just player armor, but also stylish barding for your trusty steed. Additionally, you’ll be able to forge a full set of copper tools, offering a step up from stone tools in durability, though not quite matching iron. Notably, these new copper items will not suffer from oxidation.

Beyond personal gear, ‘The Copper Age’ introduces revolutionary copper chests, along with charming new copper golems and their unique oxidized statues. To acquire your very first copper chest, you’ll need to craft a copper golem by combining copper blocks with a carved pumpkin – and just like that, you’ll have a delightful, new, friend-shaped mob! These helpful golems aren’t just for show; they can actively sort items from their own copper chests into your other storage containers, making base organization a breeze. And for an extra touch of magic, keep an eye out: rumor has it that a truly heartwarming interaction occurs when a copper golem encounters an iron golem.
Once a copper golem fully oxidizes, it transforms into a stationary copper golem statue. Don’t worry, they’re not gone forever! A quick scrape with an axe will remove the oxidation and bring your golem back to life. If you prefer to preserve a specific stage of oxidation, you can simply apply wax to halt the process permanently. As statues, these copper creations offer intriguing decorative and functional possibilities. Much like armor stands, you can cycle through various poses to perfectly complement your base’s aesthetic, whether you’re aiming for a welcoming guardian or a formidable sentinel. What’s even more exciting is their interaction with redstone: each distinct pose emits a unique signal when connected to a redstone comparator. We’re genuinely eager to witness the ingenious contraptions that creative redstone enthusiasts will devise with this new feature!

You can further personalize your structures with new copper lanterns, glowing green copper torches, chains, and decorative bars. These additions allow for even greater creative expression, letting you choose the perfect patina to match your preferred aesthetic. Additionally, lightning rods will now also undergo the oxidation process, adding another layer of visual detail to your builds.
Perhaps one of the most innovative new blocks is the shelf. These ingenious blocks can hold up to three items, enabling rapid swapping of equipment into and out of your hotbar. Combine multiple powered shelves with redstone, and you can instantly switch out your entire hotbar with a single activation. Imagine organizing shelves with backup tools, specialized loadouts for different adventures, or quick-access potions – the possibilities for streamlining your gameplay are vast!

Finally, the update will introduce redesigned dye icons, significantly enhancing accessibility by making them easier to distinguish at a glance.
In other exciting news from Minecraft Live, Mojang also teased the upcoming holiday 2025 update ‘Mounts of Mayhem,’ an educational ‘Friendly Fishing’ add-on, and a highly anticipated ‘Dragon Ball Z’ collaboration, promising even more content for players in the near future.
