As the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond draws closer to its December launch, fans have a new way to immerse themselves in the beloved series. An official visual retrospective covering the original Metroid Prime Trilogy is set to release on October 28. Published by Piggyback, renowned for their acclaimed Legend of Zelda guidebooks, this edition promises a deep dive into the franchise’s artistry.
The book’s full title is Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective: The Official Art and Making of Metroid Prime 1-3.
This impressive 212-page hardcover boasts a cloth binding and stunning etched metallic foil artwork featuring Samus Aran in her iconic Varia Suit. It utilizes high-quality art paper to beautifully present concept art and sketches from the development of Metroid Prime (2002), Prime 2: Echoes (2004), Prime 3: Corruption (2007), and the more recent Metroid Prime Remastered (2023).
Beyond the visuals, the book includes exclusive commentary from Retro Studios developers. The foreword is penned by Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe, with each of the four sections featuring introductions by other key developers from Retro Studios.

More Metroid Games
For players eager to prepare for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Metroid Prime Remastered comes highly recommended. It’s considered one of the best titles on Nintendo Switch and serves as an excellent refresher. Fans of classic side-scrolling Metroid adventures can explore Metroid Dread for Switch and Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS—a fantastic remake of Metroid II that, despite its quality, was somewhat overshadowed by the Switch’s launch in 2017. Both Dread and Samus Returns were developed by MercurySteam.

Nintendo Switch Online members can access the first five Metroid games on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The original Metroid, Metroid II, and Super Metroid are part of the standard Switch Online membership, while Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission from the Game Boy Advance require the Expansion Pack membership.
To complete the Metroid experience, PowerA has released an officially licensed wireless controller adorned with Samus Aran and a galactic design. Matching Metroid-themed wired earbuds are also available, neatly packaged in a drawstring bag.
