Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has been confirmed to portray Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming biopic, Maa Vande. This exciting announcement was made on Wednesday, coinciding with the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday.
Directed by Kranthi Kumar CH, the film is aptly titled ‘The Anthem of a Mother’ and aims to deeply explore Modi’s life journey, from his formative years to his ascension as a national leader. A significant focus will be placed on his profound connection with his late mother, Heeraben Modi.
Unni Mukundan shared his personal connection to the role on his social media, mentioning his childhood in Ahmedabad where he knew Modi as his Chief Minister. He described his later meeting with the Prime Minister as an “overwhelming yet deeply inspiring” experience. He elaborated that the film intends to reveal “the man beyond the statesman,” highlighting the crucial role his mother played in shaping his character and spirit.

Mounted as a pan-Indian movie, Maa Vande features some of the finest technicians on board. The team includes K K Senthil Kumar for cinematography, Ravi Basrur as the composer, Sreekar Prasad for editing, Sabu Cyril overseeing production design, and King Solomon for action sequences. Veer Reddy is producing the film under the banner of Silver Cast Creations.
This isn’t the first cinematic portrayal of Prime Minister Modi; Omung Kumar directed PM Narendra Modi in 2019, with Vivek Oberoi in the lead role.
Separately, Unni Mukundan’s recent action thriller, Get Set Baby, was his latest release. Last year, his film Marco faced criticism for its graphic violence, leading to the cancellation of a planned sequel due to the perceived “negativity around the project,” as stated by Unni himself.
