For two decades, Wiccan has stood out as one of the most pivotal new faces in the Marvel Universe. As a founding member of the Young Avengers, he, alongside his boyfriend Hulkling, played crucial roles in major events like 2020’s Empyre crossover. Their significance continues even today, with both heroes featuring prominently in Jonathan Hickman’s ongoing Imperial saga.
Despite his long-standing importance and even a full MCU debut in 2024’s Agatha All Along, it’s astonishing that Billy Kaplan, also known as Wiccan, has never had a solo comic series. But that’s all about to change! Get ready for Wiccan: Witches’ Road, a brand new series penned by Wyatt Kennedy (known for Marvel United: A Pride Special) and featuring the exciting artwork of Andy Pereira.

Wyatt Kennedy enthusiastically confirms that a solo series for Wiccan has been a long time coming. He envisions Witches’ Road as a unique opportunity to solidify Billy Kaplan’s individual identity within the Marvel tapestry, building out his own distinctive supporting characters and formidable foes.
Kennedy shared with us, “My primary interest was crafting a dedicated cast and setting exclusively for Billy. While the Marvel universe is wonderfully expansive, I’ve always been drawn to how characters like Spider-Man have their own distinct worlds and perspectives. I aimed to equip Billy with both fresh and familiar adversaries, establishing a clear status quo that future creators can build upon.”
Currently, both Wiccan and Hulkling are at the heart of the cosmic Imperial storyline. Wiccan: Witches’ Road will seamlessly pick up from these events, thrusting Wiccan into an unexpected return to Earth.
Kennedy hints, “It’s hardly a spoiler to reveal that the series kicks off with Billy and Teddy (Hulkling) quite literally crashing back to Earth, having lost their kingdom. We’re certainly going to delve deep into the emotional consequences of that.”
Video Feature: Agatha All Along Series Review
The series title, “Witches’ Road,” naturally brings to mind the storyline from Agatha All Along, where Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, embarks on a significant journey alongside Joe Locke’s Wiccan and other magical users. We were eager to learn how much this new comic would draw from the MCU series. Kennedy clarified that while the concept of the “road” is relevant, readers shouldn’t anticipate extensive crossover.
Kennedy stated, “To be completely transparent, I haven’t watched the show yet, and I’ve intentionally held off. I plan to watch it once my work on this series is complete. It was crucial for me to avoid being overtly influenced, consciously or subconsciously, by the show. You won’t find any appearances from Agatha here. While the idea of a ‘Witches’ Road’ is explored and discussed in various forms, my aim was to create something entirely distinct, yet still deeply rooted in gothic horror and dark fantasy themes.”
As Kennedy previously mentioned, a core objective for this new series is to introduce a unique set of adversaries for Wiccan. While he’s keeping details close to his chest about the primary antagonist, he suggests they might defy traditional villain archetypes.
Kennedy elaborates, “For now, I can only say that this character is inspired by real-world mythology and folklore, but their portrayal within the Marvel Universe will be entirely fresh. I’m even hesitant to label them a ‘villain’ in the conventional sense, as they embody a significant aspect of earth magic’s presence and what role Billy plays in protecting that.”
Kennedy concludes by showering praise on Andy Pereira’s artistic contributions, stating, “Andy is absolutely incredible, and a joy to collaborate with! Every piece I’ve seen surpasses what I envisioned while writing, and he’s someone who I’m thrilled to work with again in the near future.”
