Reading Time: 9 min

Wondering about the Flaws in The Outer Worlds 2? This beloved system is back, bringing a fresh set of negative attributes that appear even more impactful than those in the original game. By voluntarily embracing these flaws, you unlock extra perk points, which in turn can grant you powerful new abilities – a compelling trade-off for embracing unusual challenges. The number of flaws you can accept escalates with higher difficulty settings, allowing you to tailor your journey from a slightly easier path to an intensely challenging one, depending on your choices.

With a plethora of skills, perks, and traits available, crafting your ideal character build in The Outer Worlds 2 can be an extensive process. Flaws are a crucial component of any robust build, but remember, these are permanent additions to your character, so choose wisely!

A comprehensive list detailing all known flaws in The Outer Worlds 2, their effects, and unlock conditions.

Unlocking these flaws can be a bit mysterious; the game doesn’t always explicitly tell you what actions triggered the requirement. However, with a keen eye, you can often deduce how a specific flaw relates to your recent gameplay.

Here are all the flaws we’ve discovered in The Outer Worlds 2 so far:

  • Consumerism
  • Flawed
  • Kleptomania
  • N-Radiated
  • Reckless Leadership
  • Hermit
  • Easily Distracted
  • Anger Mismanagement
  • Bad Knees
  • Energy Hog
  • Sungazer
  • Overprepared
  • Gluttony

Consumerism

Your character has developed an insatiable desire for shopping, fueled by an endless stream of sales and promotions. This means you’ll impulsively buy items, often without considering the financial repercussions.

  • Effects: Vendor prices are reduced by 15%, but the sell value of your items at vendors is also decreased by 10%.
  • How to Unlock: Acquire the Premium Edition of The Outer Worlds 2.

Flawed

You’re accustomed to overcoming life’s disadvantages, consistently learning and growing stronger from each challenge.

  • Effects: All flaws must be accepted, but you gain an extra perk point every 5 levels. This bonus is retroactive.
  • How to Unlock: Accept two consecutive flaws during your playthrough.

A screenshot of the 'Kleptomania' flaw in The Outer Worlds 2, detailing its effects.

Kleptomania

You possess an uncontrollable urge to take items that aren’t yours. While you’ll occasionally pilfer things automatically, any stolen goods you manage to offload will fetch a significantly higher price.

  • Effects: Stolen items sell for 100% more at vendors.
  • How to Unlock: Repeatedly steal multiple items.

A screenshot of the 'N-Radiated' flaw in The Outer Worlds 2, showing its unique combat effects.

N-Radiated

Extensive exposure to N-Ray technology has fundamentally altered your character.

  • Effects: Whenever you take damage, there’s a 5% chance you become Camouflaged (invisible to enemies and deal bonus damage) automatically, but you also take an additional 5% of your max health as N-Ray damage. This effect has a 30-second cooldown.
  • How to Unlock: Appears after completing the N-Ray Range section and dealing with Victor.

A screenshot detailing the 'Reckless Leadership' flaw and its impact on companions in The Outer Worlds 2.

Reckless Leadership

Your unconventional leadership style often puts your companions in harm’s way.

  • Effects: You are no longer able to revive your companions in combat. However, when one companion falls, your other companion receives a significant boost: they are fully healed and their companion ability meter instantly refills.
  • How to Unlock: Frequently allow your companions to be defeated in combat.

Hermit

Your strong self-reliance and impressive crafting skills have led vendors to view you with suspicion. As a result, they are hesitant to sell you items, leading to inflated prices.

  • Effects: Vendor prices are increased by 50%. You also have a 25% chance to double the items you receive when breaking down gear.
  • How to Unlock: Craft a large number of items.

A screenshot from The Outer Worlds 2 showing the 'Easily Distracted' flaw and its impact on skill progression.

Easily Distracted

As a true jack-of-all-trades, you can rapidly improve a wide range of skills, but this comes at the cost of being able to truly master any single one.

  • Effects: When leveling up, you can only allocate skill points to your lowest non-zero skill or any skill you haven’t yet invested points in. However, you gain an additional +1 Skill Point per Level.
  • How to Unlock: Consistently spread your skill points evenly across various skills during level-ups.

A screenshot in The Outer Worlds 2 showing the 'Anger Mismanagement' flaw and its combat implications.

Anger Mismanagement

Your fiery rage makes you less effective at blocking incoming attacks, but in exchange, your power attacks become significantly more devastating.

  • Effects: You receive 50% more damage while blocking, but your power attacks deal 25% increased damage.
  • How to Unlock: Exclusively use melee weapons and consistently fail to block incoming attacks.

A screenshot from The Outer Worlds 2 of the 'Bad Knees' flaw, illustrating its effects on stealth and movement.

Bad Knees

Years of continuous crouching have taken their toll, severely damaging your knees. However, by maintaining a crouched posture, you can mitigate the constant aches, pains, and tell-tale squeaks.

  • Effects: Your crouch speed is increased by 50%. Unfortunately, crouching now emits a 10m radius sound that hostile enemies can detect and investigate.
  • How to Unlock: Remain in a crouched position for extended periods throughout your gameplay.

A screenshot from The Outer Worlds 2 showing the 'Energy Hog' flaw and its effects on gadget energy.

Energy Hog

You have a penchant for squandering power unnecessarily. While your gadget energy now recharges at a slower rate, you’ll benefit from a significantly larger reserve to utilize (or waste).

  • Effects: Your energy recharge rate is decreased by 25%, but your Gadget Energy Meter Max is increased by 50.
  • How to Unlock: Consistently deplete all your gadget energy, even when it’s not strictly necessary.

A screenshot displaying the 'Sungazer' flaw and its unique day/night effects in The Outer Worlds 2.

Sungazer

Your habit of staring directly at the sky has resulted in permanent vision damage. As a result, your eyesight is blurred, and your ranged weapons suffer from reduced accuracy. On the brighter side, you’ve forged a lasting connection with daylight.

  • Effects: Permanent damage to your vision, +100% Ranged Weapon Spread. You will continually heal while outside during the day, up to 50% of your maximum health.
  • How to Unlock: Spend a significant amount of time looking directly into the sun.

Overprepared

You ensure your weapon clips are never empty. Should you ever run completely out of ammo, you’ll deal reduced damage for a short period. However, your magazines now boast a higher capacity.

  • Effects: +50% Magazine Size. You will suffer a -40% damage penalty for 8 seconds after a weapon’s magazine hits empty.
  • How to Unlock: Constantly reload your weapons before they run out of bullets.

A screenshot from The Outer Worlds 2 displaying the 'Gluttony' flaw and its effects on healing and movement speed.

Gluttony

You possess an insatiable hunger that’s beginning to manifest physically. Your food and drink now provide greater healing, but you’ll experience a slight reduction in combat movement speed.

  • Effects: +15% Healing from Food and Drink. Your combat movement speed is reduced by 10%.
  • How to Unlock: Repeatedly consume food items shortly after adding them to your inventory.

Now that you’re familiar with the various flaws in The Outer Worlds 2, be sure to explore our guides on all the companions you can recruit to your party and the different factions you’ll encounter throughout the game.
