While EA’s popular Skate game has launched for free on PlayStation and Xbox, a version for the Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t available. However, Switch 2 owners have something exciting to look forward to! A brand-new skateboarding game with a unique style is officially confirmed to hit Nintendo’s hybrid console later this year.
This intriguing indie title, Skate Story, developed by Sam Eng and published by Devolver, promises a truly unconventional experience. Players step into the shoes of a demon in the underworld, whose very being is composed of “glass and pain.” Armed with a skateboard bestowed by the devil himself, your ultimate mission is to skate all the way to the Moon, consume it, and break free from hell.
A previously released trailer for Skate Story showcases its distinctive aesthetic and dark, compelling narrative. The game’s description highlights the importance of mastering weight and motion to navigate the “weeping concrete” and finding a “ritualistic beauty” in executing a perfect kickflip.
Skate Story was first revealed earlier this year and is also slated for release on PlayStation 5 and PC. Curiously, there’s no word yet on an Xbox version.
This new title will certainly enrich the skateboarding genre on Nintendo’s consoles, joining existing games like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 (and 3+4), Skate Bird, Skater XL, Session, and OlliOlli World.
Speaking of EA’s Skate, it appears to be a smash hit, attracting two million players within its first 24 hours. The game is currently in early access and is expected to remain in this phase for approximately one year.
