A disturbing incident has come to light in Delhi where a woman passenger was allegedly threatened by an Uber driver. The incident, shared on LinkedIn by Abhishek Pandey, involved the driver demanding an extra fare beyond the app’s quoted price. When the passenger refused, the driver allegedly resorted to abusive language and threats, stating, “I don’t care if my ID is deactivated, I’ll teach girls how they should travel.”
The passenger was understandably scared and stayed on the phone with her brother until she could arrange another ride. Pandey expressed his disappointment with ride-hailing services like Uber, Ola, and Rapido, citing insufficient background checks, weak regulations, and a lack of emergency support systems, which he believes put women’s lives at risk.
He urged government intervention for stricter regulations and called for stringent legal action against the driver, including a public blacklist of such offenders.
Social Media Reacts
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, with users expressing anger and demanding greater accountability from ride-sharing companies. Many shared similar experiences and echoed Pandey’s concerns about the safety of women using these services. The common sentiment was that safety should be a non-negotiable right guaranteed by these platforms.
