In a remarkable display of bravery and quick thinking, two nurses from Kerala, Abhijith Jees (26) from Wayanad and Ajeesh Nelson (29) from Chengannur, saved the life of a 34-year-old passenger who experienced a cardiac arrest mid-flight. The incident occurred on an Air Arabia flight traveling from Kochi to Abu Dhabi. Approximately 20 minutes after takeoff, Abhijith noticed the passenger collapse and become unresponsive. Recognizing the critical situation, he immediately checked for a pulse and, finding none, began CPR. He alerted the cabin crew, and Ajeesh promptly joined him in the resuscitation efforts. They continued their life-saving actions until the passenger regained a pulse. A doctor onboard also provided assistance by administering intravenous fluids and monitoring the patient, ensuring his stability until the flight landed safely in Abu Dhabi. Abhijith expressed his profound relief upon seeing the passenger revive, reflecting on the responsibility that comes with their profession. Ajeesh added that saving a life even before starting their new jobs felt like a validation of their career choice. The passenger was later reported to be stable after being received by airport medical staff. The two nurses, however, quietly reported for duty without mentioning the incident. Their heroic actions came to light later when a colleague who was also on the flight informed their employer, Response Plus Medical (RPM). RPM subsequently honored the nurses for their timely intervention. Dr. Rohil Raghavan, CEO of Response Plus Holding, commended them for embodying the true spirit of RPM by saving a life outside a hospital setting. Dr. Mohamed Ali, Medical Director of RPM Projects, emphasized the critical role of early CPR in such emergencies, stating, “Every second counts in cardiac arrest, even more so mid-flight.” The passenger’s family expressed their gratitude, calling the nurses’ actions a “blessing at the right moment.”
