The long-awaited ability to rewind live Twitch streams has finally arrived! Twitch CEO Dan Clancy recently revealed that new pause and rewind options are now available, though with some important initial limitations.
During a recent live broadcast, Clancy explained that this new functionality is currently exclusive to Twitch Turbo subscribers and viewers who are individually subscribed to a specific channel. Notably, it has not yet rolled out to mobile platforms.
Clancy expressed his excitement for the feature, stating, “It keeps viewers connected as they pause or rewind. Chat continues to stay live, so you can see the hype and understand what’s happening in the live stream. The idea is that you’re still there, you can catch up and then you come back.”

For streamers, the rewind and pause options must be manually activated on their end. This feature is exclusively available to Twitch affiliates and partners.
Clancy confirmed plans for a future mobile rollout and a broader, phased release to all Twitch users. He also clarified that a key reason for the gradual implementation is to ensure the rewind function cannot be exploited to bypass advertisements on the platform. Additionally, rewind capabilities will not be supported for DJ channels due to existing rights issues.
Twitch continues to be a dominant force in the streaming world, having recently boosted the visibility of the indie horror game No, I’m Not a Human. The platform’s influence is such that its leaders, alongside those from Valve, Discord, and Reddit, have been called upon to testify before Congress regarding concerns about online radicalization.
