A horrific incident unfolded in the waterfront community of Southport, North Carolina, on Saturday evening. An individual aboard a boat opened fire on a crowd gathered outside the American Fish Company, located at the Southport Yacht Basin, tragically claiming three lives and injuring several others. The suspect fled the scene by boat shortly after the attack.
Authorities apprehended a suspect matching the description approximately half an hour later in the nearby town of Oak Island, about 12 miles away. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released by law enforcement officials.
Southport Police Chief Todd Coring described the event as a “very tragic night” for the close-knit community, which has a population of under 4,000 residents. He noted that the injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment in local hospitals. Investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
