A devastating mudslide in southern Nepal’s Madhesh province tragically claimed the lives of four individuals, including three young children, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Local authorities confirmed the fatalities following the incident.
The victims were reportedly collecting soil from the banks of the Hardikhola river, which demarcates the Sarlahi and Mahottari districts in Haripurwa Municipality-1, when the earth suddenly gave way. All four died instantly as they were buried under the collapsing mound.
Eyewitnesses recounted that six people had ventured to the riverbank to gather soil, likely for an upcoming festival. While four were tragically trapped, two others managed to narrowly escape the sudden collapse.
The four unconscious victims were swiftly transported to Malangwa Provincial Hospital, where medical professionals officially pronounced them dead.
Police Inspector Balistar Singh identified the deceased as Sayada Khatun, 65, and three children: Sabiba Khatun, 6, Dillu Mansur, 8, and Nargis Khatun, 9.
All the victims were residents of the Magarthana area within Sonama Rural Municipality-6 of the Mahottari district.
