Tragedy Strikes Ahead of Gaza Peace Summit: Three Qatari Officials Killed in Egypt Car Crash

Three Qatari officials tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Egypt. This somber event occurred as the country was preparing to host a significant Gaza peace summit, a joint initiative led by President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The Qatari embassy in Cairo announced the deaths early Sunday morning, confirming the men perished in a “painful traffic accident” in Sharm el-Sheikh, a Red Sea resort city. The exact time of the crash was not specified.

The three were staff members of the Qatari royal court and died “while performing their work,” the embassy said. They identified the officials as Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, a member of Qatar’s royal family, along with Abdullah Ghanem al-Khiyarain and Hassan Jaber al-Jaber. Two other individuals sustained injuries in the collision.

Qatar has played a vital role in mediating a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, the militant group operating in Gaza. Just last week, breakthrough negotiations were held in Sharm el-Sheikh, culminating in an agreement on the initial phase of Mr. Trump’s peace proposal aimed at ending the two-year conflict in Gaza.

Looking ahead to Monday, Sharm el-Sheikh is set to host a summit dedicated to garnering support for President Trump’s peace initiative. The gathering will be co-chaired by President Trump and President el-Sisi. Other prominent global leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are also expected to be in attendance.
