A harrowing scene unfolded in the heart of Alabama’s capital city, Montgomery, on Saturday night (October 4), as a shootout between rival gunmen in a bustling downtown nightlife district tragically claimed two lives and left twelve individuals injured. Three of the wounded were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys.
Police were dispatched to the area around 11:30 p.m. following reports of what Chief Graboys characterized as a ‘mass shooting.’ He emphasized the reckless nature of the incident, stating, "This was two parties involved that were basically shooting at each other in the middle of a crowd."
The Chief condemned the perpetrators’ blatant disregard for public safety, remarking that "the shooters did not care about the people around them when they did it."
As of early Sunday (October 5), investigators were meticulously sifting through evidence and conducting interviews with potential suspects. While no one had yet been charged, Chief Graboys affirmed the police department’s unwavering commitment to the case, stating, "We will do everything we need to gather every bit of evidence to chase down whoever is involved."
