Tom Holland has characterized the eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a profound "rebirth" and the "first movie in the next chapter" of his web-slinging film franchise. However, fans eager for another rapid-fire trilogy might be surprised, as Holland also intends to take a significant acting break in 2027.
In an interview with Complex Pop, Holland elaborated on his plans for a hiatus from acting, scheduled for 2027. This year is particularly notable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe calendar, as it marks the release of Avengers: Secret Wars, following the 2026 double feature of Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. While Holland’s involvement in these Avengers films hasn’t been officially confirmed, many spectators widely expect his return.
"I’d just like to spend time with my friends and family," Holland expressed concerning his 2027 plans. "I love taking these kind of little breaks for me to travel or to work on life stuff and sort my accounts out. I want to make sure I can just be a well-rounded human being rather than just being a work machine that’s just constantly on set."

Discussing Brand New Day further, Holland reiterated that the movie "really feels like we aren’t making the fourth movie. We’re making the first movie in the chapter… This is a rebirth. This is something completely new."
The narrative of Brand New Day will pick up with Holland’s Peter Parker several years after the poignant conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Still coping with the loss of Aunt May and disconnected from his beloved MJ and best friend Ned, Peter continues his heroic endeavors protecting the streets of New York.
Although Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, their appearances are suggested to be minor, emphasizing this fresh start for Peter Parker. Adding to the excitement, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is set to co-star alongside Holland in a closely guarded role, which many fans theorize will be a new romantic interest for Peter. The film is also slated to feature several crossover appearances from other popular MCU figures, including Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher.

Holland also hinted that while Peter Parker’s multiverse adventures might be on hold, elements from his encounters with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men will subtly influence Brand New Day. He specifically noted that his new costume design in the film draws deliberate inspiration from the suits worn by his fellow web-slingers, a detail first teased in No Way Home’s end credits.
"I’m really glad that people are picking up on the homage to Tobey and Andrew’s suit," Holland remarked. "The third movie was very much about paying respects to those guys… I really like the idea that he’s trying to be his big brothers, that he looks up to them and sees little details on their suits that he thinks are really cool."
It’s important to note that this interview took place before Holland recently suffered a head injury on the Brand New Day set, which temporarily paused filming. Recent reports indicate Holland is expected to rest for several days, and production teams are currently discussing how to adjust the filming schedule around his recovery.
