The long-awaited return of CLAMP’s iconic isekai series, Magic Knight Rayearth, is officially on the horizon! After teasing fans since July 2024, the creators have finally dropped a magical update: a brand-new anime adaptation is confirmed for a 2026 broadcast in Japan.
Fans got their first enchanting glimpse with a newly released teaser visual. This evocative image features the beloved trio—Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu—standing before Tokyo Tower, a poignant nod to where their extraordinary journey into the mystical world of Cephiro first began. While the exact production team and voice cast are still under wraps, this initial reveal has already ignited immense excitement among long-time followers and newcomers alike.
For those unfamiliar with the legacy, Magic Knight Rayearth originated as a manga series by the legendary creative group CLAMP. The first installment ran from 1993 to 1995, followed by Magic Knight Rayearth 2 from 1995 to 1996 in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine, culminating in six compelling volumes. Both parts of the manga are available in English.
The original anime adaptation, directed by Toshihiro Hirano at TMS Entertainment, captivated audiences from 1994 to 1995 across 49 episodes. A three-part original video animation (OVA) titled Rayearth later followed in 1997, also produced by TMS Entertainment.
The story introduces us to Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji—three ordinary middle school girls on a seemingly normal field trip to Tokyo Tower. Their lives take an unimaginable turn when they are suddenly transported to the magical realm of Cephiro. There, they are destined to become the legendary Magic Knights, tasked by the desperate Princess Emeraude, the very pillar of Cephiro, to save her world from impending doom. Get ready to embark on a new adventure with these unforgettable heroines!
