Chicago-based alternative rock giants, The Smashing Pumpkins, fronted by Billy Corgan and featuring original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, were slated to make their first-ever performances in India this October as part of their “Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour.” The tour included scheduled stops in Bengaluru on October 11th and Mumbai on October 12th.
However, the band shared a somber announcement on their Facebook page, stating that unexpected logistical issues and circumstances beyond their control have forced them to cancel the upcoming shows.
“Due to unexpected logistical challenges and conditions out of our control, we have to cancel our two upcoming shows in Bangalore and Mumbai,” the band wrote.
The Smashing Pumpkins emphasized that they could not proceed with the concerts if they couldn’t meet the high standards they and their fans expect. “We cannot perform these shows up to the standards that we and our fans expect,” they added, explaining the difficult decision to call off the performances.
The tour was expected to feature a setlist spanning the band’s three-decade career, with founding members Corgan, Iha, and Chamberlin joined by touring musicians Jack Bates on bass, Kiki Wong on guitar, and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole. Known for hits like “Tonight, Tonight,” “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” “Today,” and “1979,” The Smashing Pumpkins have left an indelible mark on the 90s grunge movement and alternative music.
The Rock Invasion 2025 Asia Tour had already commenced in September, with stops in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi. This tour marked the band’s first Asian venture in over a decade.
