Electronic Arts has confirmed another game is closing its doors. After seven years and more than 50 updates, The Sims Mobile will officially go offline on January 20, 2026. From 1:59 PM UTC on that day, the game will become completely unplayable as there is no offline mode.
In a heartfelt message, the developers expressed their gratitude to the community, stating, ‘The Sims Mobile and The Sims community as a whole are full of creativity, kindness, and imagination. You’ve amazed us with your stories, builds, and Sims. We’re proud to have shared this journey with you.’
Leading up to the shutdown in January 2026, various in-game events will be available for players to enjoy.
The game’s final update launched on October 20. As of this date, players can no longer purchase any in-game packs or spend real money. Any existing SimCash, Simoleons, or Tickets can still be used until the game’s closure in January 2026. However, any unspent currency will not be eligible for a refund after this date.
To help players make the most of the remaining time, the October 20 update also introduced ‘unlimited energy,’ allowing for faster progression within the game.
Starting October 21, The Sims Mobile will be removed from all mobile app stores. Nevertheless, anyone who currently has the game installed or has played it previously can continue playing until the January 2026 shutdown.
In another gesture to the community, EA announced that by January 6, 2026, all Build Mode and Create A Sim items will be unlocked for everyone. ‘We want to give everyone the opportunity to build their dream home, design their perfect Sims, and experience everything The Sims Mobile has to offer before the servers close,’ the developer stated.
While EA frequently discontinues support for older titles for various reasons, no specific explanation was provided for The Sims Mobile’s impending closure. This announcement follows recent news about EA’s own potential sale to an investor consortium for $55 billion.
Even as The Sims Mobile’s journey concludes, EA continues to deliver new content for The Sims 4. Curiously, the company has indicated that due to the extensive amount of DLC already sold for The Sims 4, there are no immediate plans to develop The Sims 5.
