reMarkable digital notebooks are renowned for their exceptional quality. The flagship reMarkable Paper Pro tablet perfectly emulates the feeling of writing on real paper, thanks to its unique textured display, responsive E-ink technology, and a custom pressure-sensitive pen. However, its 12-inch screen could be a bit much for daily portability. Listening to user feedback, reMarkable has now introduced a smaller, more pocket-friendly version called the reMarkable Paper Pro Move. This new model retains all the excellent features of its larger sibling, offering a perfect paper replacement experience in a compact 7-inch size.
New Release: reMarkable Paper Pro Move Digital Notebook
The reMarkable Paper Pro Move made its official debut on September 3rd. The basic model, which includes the standard Model Marker stylus and no folio, is priced at $449. Users can opt for an upgraded Model Marker Plus and a choice of slim folios crafted from mosaic weave, polymer weave, or premium leather. Being $130 less expensive than the full-sized Paper Pro, the Move offers an enticing entry point for those new to digital notebooks who want to explore the technology without the higher initial investment.
This compact tablet measures a sleek 7.7 inches long, 4.26 inches wide, and an incredibly thin 0.26 inches. Its size is comparable to the latest Apple iPad Mini, and it weighs just over 8 ounces. The display is crafted from textured glass, and the device features a mostly aluminum body. The 7.3-inch Canvas Color display uses E-Ink Gallery 3 technology, boasting a 1696×954 resolution. This translates to a sharp 264ppi pixel density, ensuring text appears crisp and clear. For low-light reading, the display also includes adjustable front-lit illumination. Its battery offers an impressive two weeks of life, and for those in a hurry, a quick 10-minute charge provides three days of power.
reMarkable’s stellar reputation comes from its unparalleled writing experience. The Paper Pro Move continues this tradition, flawlessly replicating the sensation of writing with a pen on paper. The Model Marker stylus allows users to simulate nine different writing tools, including ballpoint pens, markers, and highlighters. Upgrading to the Model Marker Plus adds convenient eraser functionality. Handwritten notes can be instantly converted into typed text with a simple tap. Unlike traditional paper, you’ll never run out of space, and you have the freedom to resize, undo, cut, copy, and effortlessly create perfect lines and circles.
Once your thoughts are captured, reMarkable simplifies organizing them efficiently and legibly. The Paper Pro Move comes pre-loaded with various templates, such as lined and dotted pages, to-do lists, and weekly planners, to help keep your ideas structured. Completed notes can be neatly categorized into separate folders and tagged for quick searching. All your notes are securely saved in the cloud and can be accessed from other devices via reMarkable’s mobile and desktop applications. Both local and cloud files are encrypted, and for enhanced security, you can opt to set a passcode.
Is the reMarkable Paper Pro Move a good e-reader option?
While reMarkable’s digital notebooks excel in digital writing, they aren’t the top choice for those primarily seeking a versatile e-reader. This is due to limitations in easily viewing MOBI/AZW or DRM-protected EPUB content, which includes most Amazon Kindle eBooks and content from public library apps like Libby. The reMarkable OS does not support third-party applications, meaning you cannot download Kindle or Libby apps as you would on a standard tablet or smartphone. As highlighted in our 2025 review of the best e-ink tablets, “The Remarkable Paper Pro is the perfect paper replacement with bold colors and best-in-class handwriting.” However, if your main goal is an e-reader, you’d be better served by a Kindle tablet, Apple iPad, or even your smartphone.
