It seems The Outer Worlds 2 has a mischievous way of calling out its most dedicated fans! If you’re one of the players who invested in the game’s Premium Edition, you might find yourself branded with a unique character flaw: “Consumerism.”
The Outer Worlds series is well-known for its clever character flaws, which offer both benefits and drawbacks based on your gameplay style. Take Kleptomania, for instance: a boon for thieves with boosted sell rates for stolen goods, but it comes with the risk of your character pilfering items automatically, often at inconvenient moments and potentially ruining relationships.
However, the “Consumerism” flaw is in a league of its own, exclusively targeting those who purchased the game’s higher-tier edition. The in-game description minces no words, stating, “You’re the reason our marketing works. Promotions and sales have riddled your brain, and you’re more interested in buying the next big thing than financial planning.” A direct jab, indeed, especially after shelling out a hundred bucks!
Despite the slight to the ego, the Consumerism flaw isn’t entirely bad. While vendors might buy your goods at a slightly reduced rate, you also get a discount on items they sell. It’s almost as if Obsidian Entertainment understands the impulse: the thrill of acquiring new gear often outweighs the practicality of saving a few in-game pennies. Out with the old, in with the shiny new!
So, I’m embracing it wholeheartedly. I’ll take the playful reprimand and enjoy the perks of being a dedicated customer. Thank you, Obsidian, for this uniquely self-aware game mechanic!
Are you one of the players who received the Consumerism flaw after buying the Premium Edition? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this interesting game choice.
