The upcoming Diwali release, ‘Thamma,’ a horror-comedy from Maddock Films, continues the studio’s successful franchise following hits like ‘Stree 2,’ ‘Munjya,’ and ‘Bhediya.’ Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, the film has garnered over ₹4 crore in advance bookings. However, trade experts suggest that the buzz surrounding ‘Thamma’ is lower than anticipated for a Diwali release, particularly when compared to major films from previous years. Reports indicate that ‘Thamma’ is projected for an opening day collection in the range of ₹18-20 crore. While this is considered a decent start, it falls significantly short of the opening weekend figures of films like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ (₹35 crore) and ‘Singham Returns’ (₹32 crore) from last Diwali. The film is set to release across 4000 screens nationwide. The makers are hoping for a strong performance, especially with no other major Hindi film competing directly on Diwali, but the current advance booking trend points to a challenging box office run against higher expectations.
