When news of Terraria 1.4.5 first emerged in January 2023, creator Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks presented it as a minor update to tie up loose ends before moving on to new projects. Now, three years later, Re-Logic has finally announced a confident launch window, meaning players can anticipate diving back into one of the greatest sandbox games by January at the latest. In their most recent Terraria ‘State of the Game,’ Ted ‘Loki’ Murphy, head of business strategy, divulged the extensive details behind this monumental overhaul.
This update, originally planned as a small patch, has grown significantly, weaving in numerous exciting additions. Players can look forward to innovative features like cars that traverse back walls, expanded summoner equipment, a thrilling crossover with Dead Cells, and character transformations allowing players to become vampire bats or fairies. The update also brings dynamic new weather systems, roller skates for swift travel, automated hoppers for efficient farming, powerful new bombs, awesome dinosaur mounts, and even pets from Palworld that can assist with tasks like digging tunnels.
So, when will this highly anticipated update finally arrive? Murphy confirmed, “We are realistically eyeing a launch window for Terraria 1.4.5 between mid-December and the end of January.” While this timeframe is fast approaching, he cautiously noted, “It’s currently impossible to pinpoint exactly where things will land within that window. There are simply too many variables, both favorable and unfavorable, that could influence the final release. Nevertheless, we feel optimistic about this general timeframe.”
Regarding the ongoing development, Murphy shared that “parallel beta testing is actively happening across most platforms to quickly identify and resolve bugs as they emerge.” The team is also diligently working on localization, which includes new language support for Korean, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. Furthermore, they are handling the intricate details of “planning for things like platform submissions and any extra work required by our global partners to facilitate a simultaneous worldwide launch.”
While a January release would certainly relieve Re-Logic of the stress of managing post-launch patches and hotfixes during the busy holiday season, it’s clear they would love to offer Terraria 1.4.5 as a December treat. Murphy acknowledged, “We are fully aware that this update has taken an exceptionally long time to complete.” He added, “All we can do is sincerely apologize for the extended development period and assure everyone that we are working as diligently as possible to release it quickly.”
To reiterate, the Terraria 1.4.5 release window is set for sometime between mid-December 2025 and the end of January 2026. Murphy also expressed the team’s eagerness to “share future plans once the update is released and all post-launch fixes are in place.” This will likely include the highly anticipated arrival of cross-play if everything proceeds as intended. What lies beyond that, however? Could it be Terraria 2? Or something entirely different? Only time will tell.
