Following Kamal Haasan’s recent announcement about their long-awaited collaboration, superstar Rajinikanth has now publicly confirmed his involvement in an upcoming film. This exciting project will see him join forces with Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Red Giant Movies.
Just last week, during the NEXA SIIMA Awards 2025, Kamal Haasan delighted fans by revealing his reunion with Rajinikanth on screen after 46 years. He humorously explained their journey, stating, ‘We were united long ago, but chose to remain apart because they kept splitting a biscuit and giving us only half each. We wanted a full biscuit each, and we got it and relished it well. Now we are content with just half a biscuit again, so we have come together.’
Adding to the buzz, Rajinikanth informed reporters at Chennai airport on September 17, 2025, that the project is currently in its planning stages. He stated, ‘My next movie will be with RKFI and Red Giant. The director hasn’t been fixed yet, but Kamal and I both share a desire to act together again.’
Rajinikanth further elaborated that the film’s production hinges on securing a compelling script, expressing hope that a suitable story will be found soon. Meanwhile, the veteran actor is currently busy shooting for Jailer 2, the highly anticipated sequel to his 2023 blockbuster, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. His last appearance was in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama Coolie, an ensemble film that also starred Akkineni Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Shoubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.
While further specifics about the project remain under wraps, industry buzz suggests that acclaimed filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for directing Rajinikanth in his recent film Coolie and Kamal Haasan in 2022’s hit Vikram, is a strong contender to helm this collaboration.
Both Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth began their stellar careers as lead actors in the 1970s, mentored by the late legendary K. Balachander. They went on to share screen space in numerous films, with their last joint venture being Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum in 1979.
