For a long time, the allure of Monster Hunter escaped me, despite its appealing blend of colossal beasts, charming companions, and dynamic battles. Perhaps the series’ intricate systems or intimidating guides were a hurdle. However, my curiosity was instantly captured by Project Tal. This game masterfully combines Monster Hunter’s compelling creature-slaying and targeting mechanics with the breathtaking, Asian-inspired open-world aesthetics reminiscent of titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Black Myth Wukong, creating a truly stunning visual experience.
Project Tal, Madngine’s debut triple-A role-playing game, immerses players in a vibrant world steeped in Korean mythology. Its narrative draws inspiration from the legendary Tal masks, traditional face coverings deeply rooted in shamanistic rituals, dance, and theater. As you explore breathtaking fantasy landscapes with your party, you’ll confront colossal, Monster Hunter-esque adversaries, from what appears to be a titanic, tree-like dragon to an enormous golden idol.
What truly captivated me was the combat system. Reminiscent of Phantom Blade Zero’s dynamic, wuxia-inspired martial arts, Project Tal promises equally dazzling action. Players can scale the massive forms of beasts to target their vulnerabilities, much like in Monster Hunter, and execute stylish counterattacks for impressive combos.
The trailer also highlighted a significant element: active party cooperation. When one hero is flung airborne by a multi-faced oni-like monster, another swiftly intervenes to catch them, while a third leaps to shield both from a fiery blast. If this cooperative system operates as seamlessly in gameplay as it appears in the trailer, it could truly revolutionize the experience.
Every character contributes distinct abilities to the party; some excel in magic, while others prefer close-quarters combat. Since Project Tal is designed as a single-player experience, success will heavily depend on your chosen companions, making strategic team composition vital for survival.

It’s important to clarify that unlike Madngine’s previous NFT-focused mobile RPG, Project Tal will not feature any Web3 systems. In an official statement, Madngine, a subsidiary of Wemade Max, confirmed that “Project Tal is being developed as a polished and authentic single-player action RPG experience,” and reiterated that “there are no plans to include or integrate NFT, Blockchain, or Web3 related elements in its development.” This definitively addresses any concerns regarding Web3 integration.
Players can anticipate Project Tal’s launch in 2027, available on both PC and console platforms.
As we eagerly await further updates on Madngine’s Korean-inspired journey, you might enjoy exploring other top action games for some practice. Alternatively, if the allure of expansive fantasy worlds is what truly excites you, there are many excellent open-world games to discover.
