Richard Hutt confesses, “I’m terrible with color,” a statement that initially seems surprising given his impeccably coordinated outfit of blues, beiges, and browns. He quickly clarifies, “I’m colorblind, so a lot of it is guesswork.”
Over time, through dedicated trial and error, Richard has cultivated an impressive instinct for color palettes. He explains, “I gravitate towards autumnal tones like browns; I know they work. Then there are the blues and grays. Of course, sometimes I enjoy breaking my own little rules!”
Despite its polished appearance, complete with a stylish cravat and pocket square, Richard’s dashing ensemble was, as he describes it, “last-minute, actually, and a little bit rushed.” He adds, “I truly adore autumn because it allows for layering, bringing out all the clothes that have been gathering dust over the summer.”
The 55-year-old BBC television executive was visiting Brighton, a charming English seaside town, with his 14-year-old daughter, Luciana, on a Friday in early October. They were on their way to celebrate his birthday dinner. Richard mentioned that his corduroy blazer wasn’t his initial choice for the evening. “There wasn’t a family agreement on my other blazer,” he quipped.
Luciana, ever observant, pointed out how well the rich brown of her father’s jacket complemented his shoes. “You’re a sandwich,” she affectionately declared.
