A Match Made in MAGA
The segment focused on a curious collaboration between Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and entertainer Kid Rock. The duo released a “Make America Healthy” video on X, which Colbert called “an unexpected offering” and “pure cinema” during Wednesday’s “Late Show.”
Colbert quipped, “Brace yourself for some senior soft-core,” as he introduced clips of the two men, notably still in their jeans, sweating it out in a sauna.
“They really captured the feeling when no one can babysit you but Pee-Pop and when your mom gets home, you’re crying because he called you a wuss and made you shoot a gun at the neighbor’s lawn gnome.” — STEPHEN COLBERT
The viral clip showed R.F.K. Jr. and Kid Rock engaging in various fitness activities, including lifting weights, pushing tires, and, curiously, drinking milk in a hot tub, all while wearing denim.
“OK, this raises a lot of questions. Mainly, why does this make you feel like you dropped acid at a Cracker Barrel, and then made a PowerPoint presentation?” — STEPHEN COLBERT
“What is the deal with those jeans? Why won’t he wear shorts? Is he one of those action figures where his jeans are his legs? They don’t come off; you can change the shirt, but you can’t change the pants.” — STEPHEN COLBERT, on R.F.K. Jr.’s preferred workout attire
“Their workout ends with the boys relaxing in a hot tub with a glass of thick, creamy whole milk. The whole video looks less like two friends working out and more like R.F.K. Jr. picked up a drifter at the carnival and is fattening him up to eat.” — STEPHEN COLBERT
The Punchiest Punchlines (Polls and Percentages Edition)
Donald Trump’s recent endeavors, including celebrating Black History Month, became a comedic goldmine for Colbert. He highlighted a new Economist ‘YouGov, Me Tarzan’ poll which found 47 percent of Americans believe Trump is racist. Colbert joked, “OK, not a great sign that it seems reasonable to include that question in the poll. It’s like if a wedding invitation said, ‘Chicken, fish, or do you think Donald Trump is a racist?’”
The poll further revealed that 49 percent associate him with corruption, 46 percent with cruelty, and 50 percent consider him dangerous. Colbert lightened the mood by adding, “Unfortunately, unfortunately, the other 50 percent say ladies love a bad boy.”
Surveys from Marist, Quinnipiac, and AP-NORC showed Trump at “rock bottom,” prompting Colbert to compare his ratings to “one star on Yelp, 0 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a frowny face outside the men’s bathroom at LaGuardia.”
The Bits Worth Watching
Over on “Gutfeld!”, Greg Gutfeld took aim at Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The host seized on her public struggle to answer a question about Taiwan during the Munich Security Conference.
A clip from “Gutfeld!” shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Munich Meltdown’ as she appeared to stumble when asked about the island’s status, drawing criticism and commentary.
