Baldur’s Gate 3 is undeniably one of the most acclaimed games of our time, lauded as a potential masterpiece of the decade. Beyond its engaging D&D license and a now-infamous trailer featuring an unexpected romantic encounter, Larian’s incredible RPG captivated a global audience, propelling its voice cast to stardom. Yet, despite all the hype and accolades, it seems fewer than a quarter of Baldur’s Gate 3 players on PC have actually completed the game.
And honestly? I completely understand. I’m right there with you. I’ve personally started two separate playthroughs on PC and stopped both times somewhere in Act 3 (though I did manage to finish it on console, if that counts!). Whether it’s the lure of other new releases or simply the sheer overwhelm of facing the expansive city of Baldur’s Gate itself, it’s easy to get lost or feel a bit of ‘analysis paralysis,’ even when you absolutely adore the RPG.

Despite my personal experience, the low completion rate for this critically-acclaimed 2023 Game of the Year is still quite surprising. Steam achievements reveal that a mere 23.4% of players have actually seen Baldur’s Gate 3 through to its conclusion, earning Larian’s virtual thanks. This finding was originally highlighted on Reddit.
It’s important to note that this statistic only tracks the first completion; any subsequent playthroughs by the same player wouldn’t alter this achievement percentage.
However, when we look at other massive RPGs, these numbers begin to make more sense. For instance, only 22.5% of players have completed The Witcher 3, a game that’s been out for over a decade. Similarly, a paltry 11.1% of players finished Skyrim’s final quest in its 2016 special edition. The truth is, most players simply don’t complete epic, open-ended RPGs!
Perhaps it shouldn’t be too shocking when you consider that a full 10% of players haven’t even made it off the starting Nautiloid ship! Still, the overall completion rate feels remarkably low. So, if you’re like me and haven’t yet finished Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC, consider this your friendly nudge: it’s truly worth seeing through to the end.
