Initially, Saros will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5. Although there’s no official PC announcement yet, given Sony’s recent trend of bringing their exclusives to PC a few years after console release (as seen with Returnal), it’s highly probable that PC players will eventually get to experience Saros.
Will Saros be PS5 Pro Enhanced?
Yes! Creative director Gregory Louden confirmed during the State of Play event that Saros will feature enhancements for the PS5 Pro. While specific details are still under wraps, Housemarque’s track record with visually stunning titles like Returnal suggests we can anticipate breathtaking monster designs and spectacular particle effects, pushing the boundaries of graphical fidelity on PS5 Pro.
Saros story, setting, and characters
The ominous planet Carcosa serves as the backdrop for Saros, where players step into the formidable combat boots of Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer. His mission: unravel the mysteries of this lost off-world colony, shrouded by a haunting eclipse. Housemarque promises a deeply immersive narrative, teeming with nightmarish creatures glimpsed in the teaser. The game will weave its story through exceptional voice acting, cinematic sequences, collectible audio logs, and engaging NPC dialogues. As you explore Carcosa, Soltari Holograms will offer crucial insights into the planet’s tragic past. The studio also teased more surreal and enigmatic storytelling moments, details of which remain a secret for now.
A familiar face
Fans will recognize the voice and likeness of acclaimed actor Rahul Kohli (known for Midnight Mass), who portrays Arjun Devraj. Housemarque highlights Kohli’s “grounded” performance, with Devraj ominously stating in the trailer, “Every time the sun dies, madness reigns, then everything begins again. But after every death, I always come back stronger.”
Saros gameplay
Aggression is rewarded in Saros, as Arjun’s advanced combat suit grants him an array of powerful abilities. Each new run allows players to customize their arsenal with a diverse selection of Soltari human and Carcosan alien weaponry. A recent State of Play presentation highlighted Arjun’s devastating Soltari Phosphorous Shotgun, capable of melting through foes.
A significant gameplay innovation from Returnal is the Soltari Shield, enabling Arjun to bravely charge into combat. By holding R1, he can absorb lethal projectile energy to power up a Carcosan Power Weapon, turning enemy attacks against them. However, wielding these Power Weapons corrupts Arjun’s right arm with eclipse energy, presenting a dangerous but potent advantage. Should Arjun fall in battle, he’s granted a “second chance” to defy death. Harnessing eclipse corruption energy, he can rise stronger after his first defeat, with subsequent runs offering permanent upgrades to his advanced combat suit and abilities. Housemarque emphasizes this cycle: “After every death you will face a changed world, but in Saros you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to ‘come back stronger’ to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa.”
