Aryan Khan’s directorial debut series, The Bads of Bollywood, has generated considerable buzz since its release, with its characters and plot twists resonating with audiences. A particularly surprising moment for viewers was the revelation in the finale concerning the relationship between actors Lakshya and Bobby Deol. It turns out this twist was as much a shock to the cast as it was to the audience.
Sahher Bambba, who stars as the lead, Karishma Talvar, and Lakshya’s love interest Aasmaan, shared her experience: “Aryan Khan was very tight-lipped about it. He didn’t tell anyone what the twist was. We were all speculating about what might happen. I even asked Aryan, ‘Does Karishma die at the end? Does Bobby sir shoot her?’ He just told us to wait. For the longest time, we didn’t even know the show’s name as it was untitled, so we had no idea what to expect.”
The cast received the full reveal on the very day of the shoot. “On the day we were meant to film the climax,” Sahher explained, “he called us all into his van about half an hour before. He had us all sit down, narrated the entire climax, and even showed us clips of how he had shot it to guide us.”
Reflecting on her reaction, Sahher Bambba admitted, “For the first five minutes, I was stunned. I was gobsmacked and needed time to process it. I remember thinking, ‘Did I come to Goa for this intimacy workshop just to find out this?’ I felt so bad for Karishma at that moment. It was quite funny, and we all burst out laughing. We just hoped the audience would feel the same way, and they did.”
Bambba praised Aryan’s directorial skills, noting, “Aryan is a very sharp director. Many don’t know this, but he’s also the funniest person in the room. My first meeting with him was filled with his smiles and laughter, which immediately put me at ease. All my memories with him involve me cracking up. He’s incredibly funny and witty, and in many ways, he reminds me of SRK (Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan’s father).”
She further highlighted Aryan’s clear vision, even as a first-time director. “He ensured that each scene was exactly as he envisioned, no matter how many takes it took – 20 or 30. He maintained a very collaborative atmosphere on set and never lost his cool. I even asked SRK sir how he managed to stay so calm and collected.”
Recalling a personal anecdote, Sahher added, “He’s also the most chivalrous guy I’ve met from our generation. During his nani’s birthday party, as I was leaving, he excused himself from his conversation and personally walked me to my car. It was a small gesture, but it showed who he is. I hope the world gets to see his incredible talent and his wonderful human nature.”
