Exciting news for anime enthusiasts! The upcoming supernatural action series, ‘Scum of the Brave,’ has officially announced its first lead voice actor, none other than the talented Ryota Suzuki.
Suzuki, widely recognized for his memorable roles as Yu Ishigami in ‘Kaguya-sama: Love Is War’ and Ryusei in ‘Dr. STONE,’ will lend his voice to the character of Shinigami Yashiro. Yashiro is introduced as a freelance hero who is both apathetic and constantly in search of money – a complex and intriguing personality that Suzuki is sure to bring to life.
Adding to the anticipation, a captivating teaser visual and character trailer were recently unveiled, building excitement for the series’ broadcast, which is scheduled for January 2026.
Behind the scenes, the ‘Scum of the Brave’ anime boasts an impressive production team. Shinji Ushiro, known for directing ‘DON’T TOY WITH ME, MISS NAGATORO 2nd Attack,’ is at the helm at Studio OLM. Yoichi Kato, from the ‘Duel Masters’ franchise, handles series composition, with character designs expertly crafted by Rika Murakami (‘Zoids Wild’) and the evocative music composed by the acclaimed Kenichiro Suehiro (‘Fire Force’).
The anime’s origins trace back to a popular web novel originally serialized on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu platform. It later evolved into a light novel, written by Rocket Shoukai and illustrated by Yuya Kusaka, published by Fujimi Shobo under the Kadokawa Books imprint. A manga adaptation with artwork by Nakashima723 is also available, published in Japan and offered in an English language version.
The story transports viewers to an alternate 21st century where powerful mafia members can transform into menacing ‘Demon Kings’ through advanced ether-enhancement surgery. To combat this formidable threat, an elite group of bounty hunters known as ‘Braves’ is called upon. Our reluctant protagonist, Yashiro, harbors simple desires: pizza, beer, and card games. His life takes an unexpected turn when three young Braves offer him a substantial sum to become their private tutor. Yashiro, motivated purely by the financial reward, agrees – but he soon discovers that this new venture might be far more perilous and demanding than he initially bargained for.
