Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, has been hit by widespread power cuts after a night of intense Russian missile and drone attacks. The assault on energy infrastructure has left large parts of the city in darkness, affecting water supplies and causing significant disruption for residents.
City officials reported that nine people were injured in the capital, with five requiring hospitalization. Firefighters were seen tackling blazes in a 10-storey building that was hit during the strikes.
In a separate incident, a seven-year-old child tragically lost their life in a Russian drone attack in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. This region has also been a frequent target in recent weeks.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Svitlana Hrynchuk, described the overnight assault as a “massive strike” on energy facilities across the country. Repair crews are working diligently to restore power and essential services.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of deliberately targeting the nation’s energy grid to foster chaos and psychological pressure. He noted that attacks have already disrupted gas supplies, and authorities are preparing for potential further strikes.
