In a significant development for global defense, Russia has announced the successful test of its cutting-edge nuclear-powered cruise missile, the Burevestnik. The news came directly from Russia’s top General, who briefed President Vladimir Putin on the remarkable achievement this past Sunday, October 26, 2025.
During the briefing, General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of Russia’s armed forces, confirmed the Burevestnik’s impressive performance: it covered an astonishing distance of 14,000 kilometers, remaining airborne for approximately 15 hours during its flight.
President Putin has previously touted the 9M730 Burevestnik, also known by its NATO designation SSC-X-9 Skyfall, as a game-changer. He famously declared the missile “invincible” against existing and future missile defense systems, highlighting its virtually unlimited range and highly unpredictable flight trajectory, making it a formidable strategic asset.
With the successful completion of these critical tests, President Putin, seen in military fatigues during his Sunday address, instructed General Gerasimov to proceed with the final phase of development, paving the way for the Burevestnik missiles to be prepared for deployment.
