Resident Evil Zero Remake: A 2028 Debut with a Familiar Voice Actor?

Capcom’s highly anticipated, though still unannounced, remake of Resident Evil Zero is reportedly slated for release in 2028. Adding to the buzz, rumors suggest that the lead actor from Square Enix’s acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy video game is on board for the project.

This news follows a report from last year, which IGN verified, indicating that Capcom was actively developing new versions of both Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero, continuing their trend of modernizing classic entries in the beloved horror series.

Further details emerged recently from MP1st, suggesting that the Code Veronica remake is targeting an early 2027 release, with Resident Evil Zero following a year later. Intriguingly, the Zero remake is rumored to be codenamed “Project Chamber,” a title that appeared on the resume of actor Jon McLaren, known for his roles in Far Cry 5 and the Guardians of the Galaxy video game.

McLaren’s resume lists “Project Chamber” as an “upcoming AAA video game” for which he provided performance capture at Beyond Capture Studios. This codename is a clear nod to Resident Evil Zero’s protagonist, Rebecca Chambers. It’s also worth noting that Beyond Capture Studios has previously partnered with Capcom on other major projects, including the Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Originally launched in 2002 for the GameCube, Resident Evil Zero serves as a prequel to the very first Resident Evil game. It chronicles the harrowing events faced by the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team in the eerie Arklay Mountains, featuring a unique gameplay mechanic where players switch between Rebecca Chambers and escaped convict Billy Coen. It is widely speculated that McLaren will be lending his talents to portray Billy Coen.

This new remake is expected to enrich the original narrative with fresh scenes, much like how Capcom expanded the stories in its earlier Resident Evil remakes. For Resident Evil Zero, reports indicate that this could include a more significant role for the conductor during the game’s memorable train sequence.

While fans may have a while to wait before getting an official look at Capcom’s Resident Evil Zero remake, these recent reports offer intriguing glimpses into what lies ahead. Meanwhile, Capcom is also gearing up for the launch of Resident Evil Requiem on February 27, 2026, marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Requiem is designed to provide a comprehensive conclusion to long-standing plotlines, including the saga of the Umbrella Corporation and Raccoon City. The burning question remains: will fan-favorite Leon S. Kennedy make a return?
