While many PC players eagerly await any glimpse of GTA 6, the Rockstar faithful are now clinging to every fragment of Red Dead Redemption 2 news they can get. Recently, Rockstar Games delivered a subtle but significant change: they overhauled the front-facing description on RDR2’s Steam store page, a first in over five years. This small tweak has naturally sent the community’s imagination running wild, with fans desperately crafting theories about what this could possibly mean for the iconic Western adventure.
The updated description for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam now reads: “Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde Gang are outlaws on the run. With federal agents and bounty hunters massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal, and fight their way across the rugged heartland in order to survive.” While perhaps a touch understated for one of the greatest Western games ever made, it certainly provides a concise summary of the epic narrative at its core.
Previously, since March 2020, the blurb focused heavily on the game’s critical acclaim: “Winner of over 175 Game of the Year Awards and recipient of over 250 perfect scores, RDR2 is the epic tale of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the infamous Van der Linde gang, on the run across America at the dawn of the modern age. Also includes access to the shared living world of Red Dead Online.”
It’s possible that, after all this time, Rockstar simply decided to shift away from highlighting past accolades. After all, few gamers are unaware that RDR2 is widely celebrated as one of the best open-world games in history. However, the timing raises questions. This year saw the arrival of GTA 5 Enhanced on PC, and despite some initial issues, it largely recovered. This leads to the exciting thought that a similar enhanced or remastered edition could be in the works for Red Dead Redemption 2. Imagine even more stunning visuals, smoother frame rates, and perhaps some valuable quality-of-life improvements and backend features. Of course, this is purely speculative for now, but as Dutch would famously say, have some goddamned faith, Arthur.
There’s no need to worry about Red Dead Online’s absence from the new short description. The multiplayer mode is still prominently featured in the game’s full ‘about’ section on Steam. Furthermore, it was only a few months ago that Rockstar surprised us with its ambitiously titled ‘Strange Tales of the West Vol. 1’ update. It would be highly unusual to cut things short before a potential second act.
Currently, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a staggering 75% off on Steam until Monday, October 6, bringing the base edition down to just $14.99 / £14.99. The ultimate edition is an even better deal at 80% off, available for $19.99 / £19.99. If you haven’t yet embarked on Arthur’s grand adventure, now might be the perfect time.
