Rapper Skrilla says his viral hit “Doot Doot (6 7)” is in Grand Theft Auto 6.
The soundtracks and radio listings in GTA games have long been a cultural phenomenon, boosting many musical careers. In this instance, however, the song in question is already a mega hit that has inspired a global meme.
Skrilla’s “6 7” blew up earlier this year on TikTok and Instagram. Originally a slang term referring to gun violence, it gained popularity when it started appearing in clips about basketball players like LaMelo Ball, who is 6ft 7 inches tall. It then went massively viral when a boy known as the “67 Kid” used it in a meme, and now children worldwide are adopting the phrase.
While discussing the game on Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, Skrilla enthusiastically told the hosts: “I’m waiting for GTA 6 to come out… ‘6 7’ is on there, too. Yeah, ‘6 7’ is on there. I’m going to be my own person on there, playing my own music.”
While Rockstar has not yet made any official announcements regarding the songs featured in GTA 6, and they will likely hold off until they are ready. However, Skrilla’s confidence certainly suggests that “6 7” will indeed be making an appearance, and one would expect him to be in the know.
This isn’t the first time music-related buzz for GTA 6 has circulated online. In July, Travis Scott’s music video for ‘2000 Excursion’ generated considerable excitement after fans spotted what appeared to be a reference to GTA 6. This fueled speculation that Travis Scott might be involved in the game in some capacity, perhaps hosting his own radio station (a common feature for celebrities in previous GTA titles) or even appearing as an in-game character.
Adding to the roster of confirmed contributors, singer-songwriter T-Pain, known as Faheem Rashad Najm, verified his involvement with GTA 6. Interestingly, it seems Rockstar requested that he temporarily step away from his role-playing activities on NoPixel, a popular GTA 5 third-party server, to focus on his work for the new game.
However, one notable band that won’t be featured is British synth-pop group Heaven 17. A founding member, Martyn Ware, publicly claimed that Rockstar offered a mere $7,500 to each of the three writers of their hit song “Temptation” for its inclusion in Grand Theft Auto 6. Ware vehemently rejected this “extremely low” offer, tweeting a blunt message to Rockstar.
Development for GTA 6 commenced “in earnest” in 2020, following the monumental success of Red Dead Redemption 2. Initially planned for a 2025 release, the game’s launch was subject to a high-profile delay, pushing it back to May 26, 2026. Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and writer for nearly all Grand Theft Auto titles to date, affirmed that while he had no direct involvement in GTA 6, he expressed confidence that the game’s narrative will still be “great,” even if it’s “not going to be a story I wrote or a character set that I developed.”
The release of GTA 6 Trailer 2 and Rockstar’s subsequent information release have sparked a whirlwind of speculation about what to expect from what is undoubtedly set to be the biggest video game of all time. As we eagerly await further details, a wealth of information is available, including all the intricate specifics discovered from Trailer 2, a compilation of 70 brand new screenshots, and expert insights into how GTA 6 is projected to look on the PS5 Pro. Furthermore, recent market analysis suggests that while a $100 price point for Grand Theft Auto 6 might seem plausible, a “sweet spot” of $70 could actually generate more revenue for Rockstar.
