As the release date of Harshvardhan Rane’s film ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ and Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Thamma’ approaches on October 21st, accusations have surfaced that the cinema chain PVR INOX might be unfairly prioritizing ‘Thamma.’ Makers of ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ claim their film is not receiving ‘equitable consideration in cinemas.’
Reports suggest that ‘Thamma’ has secured a significantly larger number of screens and show slots compared to ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat,’ which faces limited viewing options. This alleged favoritism stems from advance booking data, with PVR INOX reportedly making an exception for ‘Thamma’ regarding the usual four-day advance booking window per property.
Anshul Garg, the producer of ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat,’ expressed his disappointment, stating, “Despite delivering four commercially successful songs and a highly promising film, it is indeed regrettable that Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is not receiving equitable consideration in cinemas.” He emphasized the importance of dreams and passion in the film industry and called such attempts to limit audience reach “highly inappropriate.” Garg expressed hope for a fair opportunity for his film.
However, PVR Inox Pictures CEO Kamal Gianchandani has denied these allegations. He clarified that PVR Inox is only handling distribution for a few territories of ‘Thamma,’ with major territories managed directly by Maddock. Gianchandani assured that both films are being treated impartially based on their merit and expressed a desire to see both films succeed at the box office.
About the films: ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat,’ directed by Milap Zaveri, stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa. ‘Thamma,’ produced by Dinesh Vijan and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, features Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok, a journalist who discovers a world of vampires, and stars Rashmika Mandanna as Tadaka and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a vampire.
