Puducherry has been experiencing relentless rainfall since Tuesday afternoon, leading to widespread disruption and waterlogging. Officials reported nearly three centimeters of rain between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM, significantly impacting daily life across the union territory.
In response to the severe weather, Home and Education Minister A Namassivayam announced that all schools and colleges in both Puducherry and Karaikal regions would remain closed on Wednesday, October 22. This decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the ongoing downpour.
The heavy rains have left many roads submerged, severely disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience for commuters. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Minister K Lakshminarayanan held an emergency meeting with key officials from the revenue, Public Works Department (PWD), and local administration. During the meeting, he directed all departments to be fully prepared and equipped to handle any rain-related emergencies promptly.
