Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK), an ally of the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, is demanding a ban on the reality show ‘Bigg Boss Tamil’. TVK leader and MLA Velumurugan voiced his concerns at a press conference, alleging that the show degrades Tamil culture through its content. He stated that while he doesn’t oppose all TV shows, ‘Bigg Boss’ broadcasts ‘vile acts’ that harm the culture, ethics, and values of Tamil Nadu, prioritizing money over cultural integrity.
Velumurugan specifically pointed to ‘disgusting body movements, kissing scenes, and bedroom scenes’ that he deems inappropriate for viewing by children and mature audiences. He suggested that the show has only refrained from depicting sexual intercourse thus far and questioned the channel’s motive for airing such content.
To address this issue, Velumurugan has submitted an ‘attention-seeking motion’ to the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He warned that if the motion is not admitted for discussion and if the Chief Minister, along with the IT and Broadcast departments, do not impose a ban, his party will organize significant protests at the ‘Bigg Boss’ arena and the Vijay Television premises, involving thousands of women. Currently, ‘Bigg Boss Tamil’ is airing its Season 9, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, which premiered on October 5 with 20 contestants.
